Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Yoonjoo held the 6th Korea-India Foreign Policy and Security Dialogue with Periasamy Kumaran, Secretary (East) at the Ministry of External Affairs of India, in Seoul on Friday, February 13.

※ The Korea-India Foreign Policy and Security Dialogue (FPSD) was established following the elevation of bilateral ties to a "Strategic Partnership" in 2010. It serves as a key channel for discussions on the future development of bilateral relations, reviews of the regional and global security environment, and exchanges of views on ways to enhance strategic cooperation.

- The Dialogue was first held in Seoul in April 2010, followed by the second in New Delhi in June 2012, the third in Seoul in September 2013, the fourth in Seoul in August 2014 and the fifth in Seoul in January 2023.

Vice Minister Park stated that, based on its commitment to pragmatic diplomacy centered on national interests, the Korean government aims to substantively advance its "Special Strategic Partnership" with India, one of its key regional partners.

Secretary Kumaran emphasized that India attaches great importance to strengthening overall cooperation with Korea, particularly highlighting the need to develop future-oriented cooperation projects between the two countries.

The two sides noted with appreciation continued active high-level exchanges, citing that after the inauguration of the new Korean government in June last year which marked the 10th anniversary of the Korea-India "Special Strategic Partnership," the two countries saw two summits, two foreign ministerial meetings, and the visit of special presidential envoys to India.*

* The summits were held in Canada in June 2025 on the sidelines of the G7 Summit and in South Africa in November 2025 on the margins of the G20 Summit, respectively.

Former Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum and lawmakers Lee Kai-ho and Song Soon-ho visited India in their capacities as special envoys of the President.

The foreign ministerial meetings took place in August 2025 during the Foreign Minister’s official visit to India and in October 2025 on the sidelines of the ASEAN-related Summits, respectively.

The two vice ministers agreed to hold summit-level exchanges this year to closely consult on elevating bilateral relations to a new height and on producing tangible, future-oriented benefits to lives of people of both countries.

In particular, the two sides held in-depth discussions on ways to strengthen cooperation in areas such as economic security, critical technologies, defense and the defense industry, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges, while also exchanging views on regional and global affairs.

Following the Dialogue, Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun met Secretary Kumaran to exchange views on ways to advance bilateral cooperation and on the regional situation.

Minister Cho, reflecting on his tenure as Ambassador to India from October 2015 to June 2017, noted that he had personally witnessed India’s immense potential. He called for conducting top-level exchanges in order to closely discuss ways to further strengthen bilateral ties.

Secretary Kumaran expressed his pleasure in meeting Minister Cho for the first time since the Minister’s visit to India in August last year.* He noted that today’s Foreign Policy and Security Dialogue served as an opportunity to reaffirm the potential for bilateral cooperation across various fields, and pledged to continuously follow up on the discussed matters after his return home.
